I Need Advice About Blogging

Occasionally I’m in the mood to write (and share) erotica. It hits me in spurts. You get my drift.

The issue is, I generally password protect the posts to keep them from circulating to a wide audience.

Maybe I’m sensitive about my sexuality. Well, really I’m just a private person and I like to reserve the more raunchy stuff for a smaller, more personal audience.

Here’s the thing – I get very little feedback from this smaller audience, and well, as an artist, I like to know what resonates with readers and what doesn’t.

Like, do folks appreciate being let in on the erotic secrets – or not?

So here’s the question: how can I share with readers who regularly engage with the blog, and also maintain a certain level of privacy? I’m open to suggestions.

Thank you!

  1. I would have to say it is always and interesting question. I believe if you want looking to reach a larger audience yes maybe you want to open your post up to the everybody that would be interested in what you have to say. If your blog is for you to write and open your own mind up and work through ideas maybe you might want to keep it under wraps. I write about private moments in my life. I to had this same question as you when i started mine. I decided to post it in the open and see what happens. I have never regretted my decision.

    • Hi. Thanks for the advice. I’ve come a loooong way as far as sharing. At least I think I did, from four years ago. I write erotica sparingly, so it’s less of an issue than memoir (really personal stuff), but I do enjoy it and like for others to share in the fun. I’m thinking on it! Finding balance – and a “participating” audience is always on bloggers’ radars. Thanks again.

  2. I’m not sure exactly… I started a whole new blog for exactly this reason. My regular blog isn’t prudish but it certainly isn’t my intended audience for erotic talk (be it about my writing or another’s) and I didn’t see those who are interested in my sex talk as being as taken by the rambles to be found in my regular blog. A new blog seemed the only option in my case. πŸ™‚

  3. This is a difficult one. I don’t think writing about the more erotic moments of life is a problem – this blog is about sharing life and the need for intimacy is an imperative of life. The difficulty comes in with who will see this. I think you should do it in stages. Perhaps password protect the posts and share them only with a small part of your audience and eventually build up to sharing it with larger members of the audience. If you still don’t feel you’re getting the feedback you deserve then perhaps you should try posting it publicly and just see what happens. You’re working on a memoir so this stuff is going to be out there, this could be good practice.

  4. Shakiyla, I think that continuing to password protect those posts with erotica should be fine. I hope that you continue to write more adult themed posts soon.
