Where Am I? | Quotes That Resonated 12/11/2015

Honestly, my brain is a bit of a miss mosh right now so I hope you grasp where I’m coming from.

I started this article on quotes that resonated with me, and I dropped the ball (because I was at work).

So I’m sharing now (on 12/14!).

Patience

From this article on Patience (Let Go and Take Your Time)

Patience is not a virtue; that makes it sound easy and light.

No, patience is hard and it takes practice. Patience is really about having the inner strength to stick to your guns, face your fears, repeatedly let go of internal expectations, and have trust that it will all work out in the end.

The music that is our lives can only be fully recognized, experienced, and played out when we allow space to move, breathe, and enjoy. We need to let go and let time play out at its own rhythm.

About Expectations (tweets!)

Sometimes we expect lovers and friends to act and think a certain way (based on our ego or what we would do), but they can only give what they have. We want to show up, in the best case scenarios, and be willing participants in relationships, but we can only give what we have.

On Letting Go (and being patient I guess!)

If I had ten bucks for each time someone mentioned the word patience to me over the past couple of months, I could buy a nice pair of Italian leather over-the-knee boots. (Last week I did buy a pair of suede knee boots from my favorite store – Anthropologie. Made in Italy too.) Anyway… I’m trying. I’ve done a lot less cursing while driving.

I was talking to my brother (from another mother) about this the other night and he reminded me that I am at battle with self, and that we all are, about any number of things. What to do. When. How. And so on.

And separately (but somehow related) – I sent this to my daughter last night when she was fretting over a job interview:

I told her that whatever the best outcome is, is exactly what will happen. “Let it go,” I advised.

On Soulmates! (From this book: The Soulmate Secret, which I highly recommend.)

And as I was reading the chapter about list writing (I’ve probably written hundreds of lists on everything from napkins to the palms of my hands), I underlined this quote by Deepak Chopra:

“In order to acquire anything in the physical universe, you have to relinquish your attachment to it. This doesn’t mean you give up the intention to create your desire…you give up your attachment to the result.”

I think that tied right back into patience, and letting go of outcomes. So, while unintentional, I think we have a theme here!

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

If any of this resonated with you, please let me know. If you have any advice at all on cultivating patience, do share. I was thinking mine suddenly ran low, but friends checked me like “naw girl, that’s been you.” (And thank you!) One said I’m just really definitive – a take it or leave it type of person. True!

  1. Loved this post. The last quote seems in conflict with my work life, as everything is tied to outcome. Thanks for sharing these quotes of affirmation.

  2. The only way I’ve learned to have patience is to go with the flow and realize what I can and cannot control. It’s hard stuff for sure.
