Dear readers,
I know it’s actually day two (November 2nd), and a bit too early to write about how my month shaped up (although I hope it turns out great!).
But here’s how I started it off so far – with a challenge. Oh – and naturally, something unexpected.
I’m hoping you will keep up with me for the rest of the month, so I figured I’d fill you in on what happened yesterday – DAY ONE.
- I signed up for NaBloPoMo, which stands for National Blog Posting Month. This means that I (and a whole community of bloggers) have agreed to participate in BlogHer’s challenge by sharing at least one blog post EVERY DAY DURING THE MONTH OF NOVEMBER. Are you with me? This is my chance to try new formats, come up with consistent material, entertain you with stories, grow my readership – and win PRIZES! You may know that I’m writing a memoir centered on the impact of absent fathers on African-American women. I’ll share glimpses of that too. I kicked off the challenge with yesterday’s post: My New Baby. Come. Come along for the ride! I promise it’ll be fun.
- My son broke his hand at school. Yea, slap boxing with a friend in the gym locker room. Why do teenage boys do that again?
- My ex-boyfriend called me. The one I wrote about in August Trippin 2K13; he had the massive stroke, lost his speech and lost all feeling and movement on the left side of his body. He’s finally talking again. I’m so relieved. And if I’m honest, I miss him and never (Never) imagined I would be that happy to hear his voice. We broke up almost three years ago. He told me all about how hard therapy is and how he had died after the stroke. And how he’ll keep fighting. He remembered my cell phone number.
- I won Moregasm: Babeland’s Guide to Mind-Blowing Sex and a Magic Wand vibrator via Twitter giveaway! More specifically via blogger extraordinaire and photographer Abilgail Ekue – and Babeland®. Woop woop! Abigail says I’ll be walking on shaky legs! #buzzbuzz Hell, I’m not complaining.
Shit, I really can’t wait.Hmph. I’m a single woman! Well, actually, these items could make a nice holiday gift for someone. (RIGHT!!!??)
End post.

IDK how you’re gonna manage 1 post per day. That will be challenging.

I know! We shall see. I’m sure most will be short. I’m gonna have to attack those draft posts!

Before, I couldn’t imagine posting 2 times per week. Over the past 3 weeks, I’ve been posting like 2 posts per day some days. It’s crazy. Well, that’s what the drafts are for 🙂

Yea you post ALL the time, so this challenge would be a breeze for you. Lately, I’ve been posting 2-3x a week and you know that’s major progress for me. I’m hoping my usual readers will keep up with me. My readership is already growing though. I have plenty of material to draw too. Stacks of it.

I’m new to your blog so I didn’t know you were writing a memoir, much less the topic– sounds very intriguing. My degree is actually in African-American Studies, so that is a memoir I’d love to read. How far are you in your writing?

Oh cool! I’m as far as having lots of written material and an outline. I’m working on it with a writing coach. My degree is in creative writing. In a sense I blog about relationships in a very light tone as a distraction from doing the harder work on my memoir. Smh. My journals and memoir material are completely different. I’ll keep you updated. Thanks!
